North Horizon Heli Adventures is proudly Indigenous owned and operated from Katherine in the Northern Territory. Our team combines decades of aviation experience with local knowledge and strong relationships within Nitmiluk National Park.
Doug McBean - Founder
Doug McBean was born in Katherine and raised on his family’s iconic cattle stations, Innesvale and Bradshaw. A humble man with deep connections to country, he has flown helicopters across Australia’s Top End for over 34 years, mustering cattle by air and flying all sorts of aerial operations. North Horizon Heli Adventures brings to life his dream of sharing the Top End’s extraordinary landscapes, Indigenous culture and creating life-changing adventures for all.
Gerald Grogan - Chief Pilot
Gerald has over 15 years of aviation experience and a deep passion for fishing. He is also a handy cake decorator, and his locally famous beehive cake took first prize at the Katherine Show.
Dan White - Pilot
Dan has over four years experience in aviation, much of that working in tourism. He is used to operating in remote areas and operating a range of helicopters, including the R22, R44, and B206. He also loves exploring Nitmiluk Gorge by foot in his time off.
Susanna Russell - Sales and Marketing
Susanna first fell for the Northern Territory's rugged charms during a road trip, and is yet to find a corner of Australia quite as captivating. Drawn to adrenaline, wide open spaces and that magic “right place, right time” feeling, joining North Horizon Heli Adventures felt like a natural fit. She’s all about creating unforgettable experiences that showcase the raw beauty of the Top End from above.
Sarah Grogan - Tourism Coordinator
Sarah is passionate about the Northern Territory tourism industry. She loves spending time with her family adventuring throughout the Top End and also getting home to her garden, horses and much loved chooks
Ollie Taylor - Pilot
Ollie loves helicopter flying for one simple reason — it takes you where nothing else can. From accessing remote country to getting the job done in places few people ever see, it’s that unique capability that makes helicopters special for him. When he’s not flying, Ollie swaps the cockpit for a mountain bike and spends his downtime exploring the outdoors. He also has a passion for physics and is rarely without a book.
Sonam Hawkins - Pilot
Sonam loves showcasing the spectacular landscapes of the Top End from above. With a background flying remote archaeological surveys, he brings a deep appreciation for rugged country, waterways, and ancient landscapes to every scenic flight. When he’s not in the cockpit, you’ll find him camping, surfing or exploring the outdoors — though he insists he already flies in the best place in the world.
